   ഫ്രാൻസിസ് പാപ്പായുടെ ചിന്തകളിലൂടെയും Participatory Church എന്ന ആശയത്തിലൂടെയുമുള്ള ലിയോ ടോം വടക്കൻ്റെ പര്യടനം അത്തരം ചിന്തകൾക്ക് ഒരു പുതുമാനം നല്കുന്നതാണ്. രണ്ടാം വത്തിക്കാൻ കൗൺസിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഇത്രയും വർഷങ്ങൾ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടും ഇനിയും ഏറെ ദൂരം പോകാത്ത ഒരു മേഖലയിലേക്കാണ് നമ്മെ ലിയോ ടോം കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടുപോകാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നത്.
   സഭ ഇന്നു വലിയ തോതിൽ നേരിടുന്ന വിഭാഗീയതയുടെ വെല്ലുവിളിക്ക് സിനഡൽ പാതയിലുള്ള ചില പരിഹാരങ്ങളും പരോക്ഷമായി Kairos Media പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിലുണ്ട്. എല്ലാ ആശംസകളും…

   Dear Leo Tom,
   Your book “Participatory church” is a good introduction to the church, Pope Francis envisages
   synodality as his mission. The ten chapters of the book are a very readable and simple explanation of the
   Synodality which the Pope speaks so often with theological insight and deep spiritual fervour. You do not
   enter into any controversial field but as an enlightened lay person of faith, hope and charity but you
   understand the undercurrents. There are controversial issues at stake which you definitely know. You
   speak of “profound renewal” and you are right. But what does the profound renewal mean?
   .
   What is the problem with clericalism which you mention? It is the attitude of hegemony which is a
   baggage of the history of the church from the Roman Empire. The ghost of Caesar haunts the churchleadership. The abuse history of paedophilia in many parts of the world is not to be read as sex issue but
   an issue of authority, abuse of authority. What is the issue at stake in the repeated scandals in our church?
   Is it liturgy? The Pope is trying to deconstruct the notion of authority.
   Authority comes from the word author. What is the authority in a church gathering? Who is the author of
   church decisions? Christ. How can Christ be present in a church meeting? How can church meetings
   become authoritative? How can an author say Dostoevsky speaks in his novel? Through the characters.
   How does the Holy Spirit speak in a church gathering? How is God related to language? How can God
   enter language? These theoretical questions are not dealt with but implied in the church documents. If
   you had consulted Michael Bakthin you could speak with a little more authority. This is no criticism but
   only a remark, hope you will take it well.
